What is Driver CPC Periodic Training?
This is a qualification that aims to improve drivers' knowledge and practices before, during and after a
journey. This consists of 35 hours of classroom training, which is broken down into 5 days of training. CPC stands for Certificate of Professional Competency.
Is there a deadline? When is it?
Yes, initially there was a deadline for drivers with grandfather rights;
LGV (HGV) drivers - 10th September 2014
PCV (Bus and Coach) drivers - 10th September 2013.
However, once completing your 35 hours of training, you will be issued a Driver Qualification Card (DQC), which will indicate an expiry date. The expiry date will be 5 years from the date your training was completed.
What is a DQC?
This is a Driver Qualification Card, which proves you have completed the required CPC training. This must be carried whilst on route at all times or you face a fine and unable to drive any further.
Do I have to do it?
It is illegal to drive for a profession without the
qualification card. You and your employer may be faced with fines of up to £1000.
